Gratitude – 1/15/2012

Grateful to get out sledding with the GDFB’s and to finally try out the new sled I got last season and was never able to use. More good food, fun, and football and though the outcome of the Packer game wasn’t what I’d hoped, I appreciate the great season they had and how much fun it was. Enjoying my flannel sheets and the duvet cover trick with clothespins Annie showed me – always works great!

Gratitude – 1/14/2012

I am grateful to have gotten a bit more work done on house even though I wasn’t really in the mood. Had another great day of food, fun, and football with the gang. Laurel made a yummy jicama salad to go with the home made nachos. ‘Dre and I even got some birthday wishes and a cake, compliments of the Fam! Our birthdays are on consecutive days.

Grateful that while my new Corolla doesn’t handle as amazingly well as my old Outback, it still handles very well in the snow and slop. Also had a reasonably productive day at work and pleasant checkin/catch up call with my brother Duane. Ended with a great evening of food and fun with some friends. Sadly, I can not recommend the fish fry at The Old Fashioned, though I can heartily endorse the signature drink (still not the level of Otto’s though). Still love the bread pudding and Bailey’s cheesecake at Brocach.

Grateful to be able to be supportive of the one’s I love most when they need it. Dinner with Norm and the GDFB’s tonight and a decent LLTAM writing session as well.

Gratitude – 1/11/2012

Grateful to be somewhat functional today. Yesterday was a completely lost day being totally out of commission sick. Lot’s of well-wishes today from folks noting my latest lap around the sun.

Norm helped out getting my snowblower out of storage and ready to roll for the snow forecasted tomorrow. As always, the ever-reliable Toro started on the first pull. Bought it used over ten years ago and it has run like an absolute champ. On the way back to the house Norm and I stopped off at Great Dane East for a drink and some hot wings. Nice to hang for a bit even though I wasn’t feeling 100% yet.

Grateful to have the option to take sick time off from work. Yuck, what a shitty day.

Pro Tip: Dispose of all your woefully expired pharmaceuticals appropriately. By that I mean do not ingest them simply because they are convenient. Totally not worth the awful trip from bad meds…

Today I’m grateful for being able to engage in the democratic process. I (finally) signed the recall petitions.

I’m also grateful to have discovered a new app called Matchbook that will help me keep tabs on places I like to eat or want to try. It also would work for other points of interest as well. Looking forward to using it for traveling like my next trip to Portland and Vancouver. It’s pretty basic but ton’s better than the note I was keeping on my iPhone.

Gratitude – 1/8/2012

Indulged in the “diner breakfast” I had been craving for the last few weeks. Even though Green Forest Restaurant is nothing special, its kind of a comfort place for me. I like sitting at the bar by myself and having a relaxing breakfast with decent coffee. Norm came over afterwards and we installed te new water softener. Went quickly and everything worked the first time. No leaks! Will be nice to have soft water again. I tested the water hardness to calibrate the unit and it was off the charts. Relaxing evening of good company and play-off football with friends. Hot bath rounding out a relaxing weekend.

Grateful to have gotten a few more things done on the house today after sleeping til 10:30 (awesome!). Norm and Ian helped wire the garbage disposal, install the garage door opener keypad, and removed the old water softener. We had a good lunch at my new favorite authentic Mexican place – Pelayo’s Mexican Restaurant – now called Habanero’s Mexican Grill. Nothing fancy, just great burritos.

Spent a great evening hanging out and enjoying some quality time with Andre and Norm watching football, noshing on yummy vittles, and drinking some smoove Night Train, an oatmeal porter from O’so Brewing out of Plover, WI. Excellent dark beer.

Gratitude – 1/6/2012

Fondly remembering my sister Dianne on what would have been her 68th birthday.

Grateful for being able to provide at least a little bit of value at work today. My ratio (value provided / potential to provide value) has been pretty slim as of late – not my choice. Enjoyed a quick dinner (pizza) at Cafe Porta Alba before enjoying Sherlock Holmes in my favorite seats at Sundance Hilldale. First time at Cafe Porta Alba. Good food, good service and they were quite prompt, even with a full house. I’ll definitely go back.
